Q 1: Can I break out the audio only from the CAT5 output ports of the hub?
A: For a very short connection distance you can take audio right from pin 1 of the RJ45, with audio left from pin 3 and a common ground on pin 7. For distances longer than 3m you must use a ZSR-100 CAT5 receiver to decode the audio.
Q 2: What is the correct method to install the infrared receivers?
A: Because the IRR-300 infrared receiver operates over a very wide range of IR remote control frequencies it can be very sensitive to interference energy from other sources if not installed correctly. It is important therefore to follow the following simple rules when installing the IRR-300 infrared receiver.
1. Be aware that fluorescent tubes, low-energy lamps, daylight, TFT and plasma screens can emit considerable interference. The recommended position for the IRR-300 is below and behind the lower front edge of the display screen and in shadow from any local light source.
2. To avoid any potential confusion, connect and confirm correct operation of only one Zone kit at a time.
3. Use the activity led's to confirm correct positioning of the IRR-300 infrared receiver. There are two of these led's to help you; one sited on the front panel of the ZSR-100 receiver and another on the front panel of the ZS-88 hub. Both of these will indicate detected infrared code by flashing when a remote control button is pressed, the ZSR-100 led should ONLY flash when a button is pressed, whilst the ZS-88 which normally flashes once a second to indicate correct internal processor operation also additionally flashes to indicate detected infrared code. The correct position of the IRR-300 is achieved when neither of these led's flash at any time other than when a remote control button is pressed and the routine 1 flash/second at the ZS-88 hub.
4. If the activity led's do show additional flashes this indicates that interference is being received and the position of the IRR-300 should be adjusted to eliminate these. In areas of severe interference it is sometimes necessary to position the IRR-300 behind the screen not pointing directly at the remote control position, but to pick up a reflected signal from the remote control.
Q 3: My remote control does not change sources, although the IR code is detected by the activity led’s on the ZSR-100 receiver and ZS-88 Hub?
A: There are two things to check
1. The Zoneswitch remote control may be set to its TV mode, try pressing the ZS button on the remote control before selecting the source buttons. The ZS button only needs to be pressed once to put the remote control into its ZS mode and will only change when the TV mode button is pressed.
2. The Zoneswitch remote control and the Zoneswitch hub may not be set to the same operating mode. To avoid potential conflict between the Zoneswitch remote control mode and other remotely controlled equipment in the same room, the Zoneswitch can operate in one of 64 alternative modes. The Zoneswitch factory set default is mode 06. The remote control can be changed by pressing the ZS and MUTE buttons together for 3 seconds until the led lights up, then press the 2-digit code required between 01 - 64, after which the led will blink 3 times and then turn off. To change the ZS-88 hub requires you to enter the Zoneswitch browser "Information Page" and selecting the required IR Code from the drop down menu and pressing the associated "Update" button.
